I forgot how emotional this book makes me and the hard decisions I have to make not to fall into any pigeon holes. One of those 'holes' is refraining from using stereotype slave jargon from the past like, "Massa" or Masta", being replaced for "Master". Or the reference that one is superior by completely omitting the word completely. Personally, I think American history has over focused on the aspect of these dialects. Several existing slave journals and narratives from the past indicate that the vocabulary of an African slave was higher than a modern day college student. The other is use of the "N" word. A good writer can write about a historical time and place without degrading his characters to using this word. I think "D'Jango" failed as a movie because it was solely focused on the overuse of the "N' word and not much of a plot. Runaway Slave 2, will have a Februray 2015 release. If all goes according to plan.
